In much of what we do, we wish to understand the significance of our activities, how they<\/p>\n
contribute to others, and what these actions achieve. There are so many stories that describe the<\/p>\n
success of equestrian assisted therapy and how many lives have been changed.<\/p>\n
We would like here, to present a different aspect, the point of view of the therapist who is largely<\/p>\n
responsible for a long journey of treatment, success and realization.<\/p>\n
The connection with the patient<\/strong><\/p>\n Taken from a conversation with the therapist- \u2013 \u201cI try to identify with each of the patients, to<\/p>\n understand and sense them so that I will be able to understand their needs. From my point of<\/p>\n view, the relationship with the patient, gaining their trust, is the most important thing in<\/p>\n treatment. A good therapist can treat a person without ever giving them a feeling that it\u2019s<\/p>\n treatment. That is how we can achieve significant change in patients of various ages, including<\/p>\n people with head injuries, developmental disorders \u2013PDD or congenital diseases. The treatment<\/p>\n we offer with horses, is holistic therapy that relates to body and mind simultaneously, regardless<\/p>\n of the stated purpose of the treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n Patients are not \u201cdisabled\u201d \u2013 \u201cI don\u2019t see the patients as having disabilities, but as healthy people<\/p>\n dealing with a problem\u2026 I won\u2019t let them feel inferior to others. That is a major achievement in<\/p>\n itself\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n The therapist mediates between the patient and the horse<\/p>\n The responsibility of the therapist is so great, the success of the treatment depends on the<\/p>\n therapist\u2019s ability to get the horse to be 100% focused during therapy and to adjust to the<\/p>\n patient\u2019s pace. This adaptation by the therapist leads to success of the therapy.<\/p>\n A unique feeling of contentment<\/p>\n Taken from a conversation with one of the Center\u2019s therapists – \u201cWhen I succeeded at my<\/p>\n previous job, some years ago, I felt successful when we finished a project or ended a long<\/p>\n process of developing software etc. I thought I could identify the feeling of the joy of success\u2026 I<\/p>\n didn\u2019t understand how little I knew. Today, when I take a patient, and together we go on a long<\/p>\n journey to change his way of life, we experience success in every session. \u201cSmall Successes\u201d<\/p>\n that impact a person\u2019s life, that enable a patient to carry out basic activities which he could not<\/p>\n do before he began therapy.
